Digital Signage Background
What is Digital
Signage exactly? How does it work? Is it complicated to setup and
expensive? How can it help my business? These
are all questions we hear every day from businesses and potential
customers, so we'll take a few minutes here to give you a background
on Digital Signage and explain how our systems and software work.
Dynamic Digital Signage
(DDS) or Electronic Digital Signage (EDS) as it's sometimes referred
to is beginning to sweep across the country. Market penetration in
the U.S. is just getting started though and saturation is years away.
DDS was actually born in Las Vegas in the 1970's and is now prominently
seen in all its glory in New York, London, Tokyo and other world class
cities.
While the U.S. is just
beginning to roll DDS out in mainstream form, Europe and Asia are
far more along in this effort. As has been the case with other new
technologies (broadband, cell phones, wireless, smart cards), the
costs to implement DDS are much lower in European and Asian markets
than in the U.S. because of infrastructure. Now as plasma and LCD
screen costs are dropping and broadband connectivity is becoming readily
available, the time is ripe for a digital signage revolution in America.
In Traditional form,
DDS can be used to replace and/or supplement traditional signs, posters
and other forms of in-store advertising. But as with any new technology,
application from a traditional source is just the beginning. DDS can
now be used to replace outdoor billboards, integrate seamlessly with
television programming and even display full screen streaming video.
Those are only a few of the ways DDS can help bring an integrated
marketing approach to your business. The possibilities are infinite!
From a Return On Investment
(ROI) standpoint, the obvious reason to utilize DDS is that it reduces
advertising and printing costs. But the real savings comes from the
flexibility DDS brings to advertising and marketing campaigns. Digital
signs can be edited electronically from remote locations, giving businesses
the ability to update their messages at any time. The speed and ease
with which DDS ads can be launched and changed is unmatched by an
other advertising mediums. This flexibility, if used correctly, can
easily pay for itself in a short time.
Along with influencing
impulse and point of purchasing buying trends, DDS is currently being
used to increase in-store sales. Digital signs have been shown to
increase in-store sales by between 5% and 40%, depending on which
study you read. But while the effectiveness of any advertising is
difficult to measure exactly, point of purchase and impulse buying
sales techniques clearly work. The proof? When was the last time you
went to the grocery store not intending to buy chewing gum, but left
the store with it anyway? Now think about how you could harness and
utilize that power in your own business? From retail stores to corporate
meeting rooms, from educational facilities, to public plazas, when
used effectively, DDS can dramatically change the way your customers
are influenced. Read on and we're sure you will agree that DDS is
the wave of the future!
